JARGON
One of the curious side effects of the environmental movement gaining importance in recent years is the amount of "Greenwash" (literally jargon) that is being spouted by politicians, companies, organizations etc. It is nearly always meaningless – the essential reason is that the people concerned are either desperate to sell a product regardless of whether it is of environmental benefit or they are trying to sell themselves. To avoid legal suites names etc will be avoided – all that remains to be said is that people should be very careful next time they are buying a car or booking a holiday. For example how on earth can it be carbon friendly to fly half way round the planet to your tented village in the tropics. No amount of carbon offsetting is going to take away the fact that your family holiday is going to stick tonnes more carbon into the atmosphere and help the acceleration of global warming. 99% of this notion of "carbon offsetting" is based on spin – it is nearly always about selling something regardless of the consequences.
JUNK MAIL
We still get it despite the fact many of us sign up to these websites alleging that it will be stopped from hitting our mats. The obvious reason for the continuing nuisance of junk mail is that it makes various agencies a lot of money; at a time when people no longer send letters in the post. But if you want to have a go at stopping it try:

JUSTICE
Environmental justice doesn't just mean the rights of forest communities around the world to continue their age-old tribal practices or for the people of the Maldives to be compensated for their impending inundation. It means that you and me should have the right to stop yet another unwanted speculative housing or office development springing up. Or prevent the building over of yet another area of amenity land round the corner by some crooked developer greasing the palms of the local planning department. In the UK there are
still next to no sustainable low cost housing developments or any other developments for that matter. Go to Holland, Germany and Scandinavia and you will see that they have been building carbon low or neutral housing and live-work condos for years. The payback times for residents is getting increasingly less. In the UK there are few bespoke developers who specialize in sustainable development. But if you want to stop a 1000 acre development going ahead in what is the most crowded country in Europe forget it. None of the three main political parties would adopt such a policy; and nor will they enforce the requirement in the year 2016 for all new homes to achieve Code 6 of the Code for Sustainable Homes. It will be conveniently forgotten.

KNOWLEDGE CENTRES
This sounds like a jargon term and largely it is: it is really just another phrase for Colleges, Universities, Schools, websites etc that specialize in environmental subjects. Included would be the Centre for Alternative Technology in Wales.

LAND REMEDIATION
This is becoming an issue as more old industrial and MoD land is used to build on.

LAVENDAR
The Lavendar fields of Western Europe have grown in recent years as it has been a valuable commercial crop; it is also excellent news for the bee population and therefore for the rest of us as bees of course pollinate the crops on which our food cycle is based. See:

LIME
This is a much forgotten and ignored building material but it is one of the most important when it comes to building on a global scale, including the UK. Lime's main qualities are breathability when used as a walling or flooring material and it's traditional use in masonry mortars and putties. For further information see:
