WHAT IT'S ABOUT

Generally not enough is being done at all levels of society with regards good environmental practice and in fact things are going to get much worse with respect to pollution of the atmosphere, groundwater sources and loss of natural environment as a result of over development and increasing traffic. This is before anyone even mentions global warming. The aim of this website is to bring information to everyone's fingertips for little or no cost so that all have the potential to make a slight difference in whatever part of the world they are living in with regard to their everyday lives. It is a business directory within a campaigning philosophy; and is not just intended for environmental use; for example it contains useful information on renovating your home.

WASTE
There are four Incinerators dealing with hazardous waste: Fawley (Southampton) owned by Rechem, Pontypool (Gwent) owned by Rechem, Ellesmere Port (Cheshire) owned by Cleanaways, Killamarsh (Sheffield) owned by Leigh Environmental.

There are 34 Local Authority incinerators dealing with household waste and 800 clinical waste incinerators.

Note: Landfill sites are contributing to global warming as they give off methane in large quantities; methane is 1000 times more potent as a greenhouse gas than CO2 (the main gas if landfill waste is burnt).

WIND TURBINES
These have fast become unpopular and the efficiency and output of wind turbines is being debated; however they will continue to be built as part of current energy policy especially in Europe. For Information see:

WINDOWS, DOORS, CONSERVATORIES
New Building regulations require higher specification new build and replacement windows. Most companies now comply with the requirements in terms of U values (thermal index) by means of double or triple glazing, low emissivity glass and thermal breaks. Choice of materials is now very important: uPVC production is toxic, Aluminium is energy intensive. Timber is still regarded as the most environmentally “correct” material if sourced from durable timber and managed plantations. See:
