WASTE
There are four Incinerators dealing with hazardous waste: Fawley (Southampton) owned by Rechem, Pontypool (Gwent) owned by Rechem, Ellesmere Port (Cheshire) owned by Cleanaways, Killamarsh (Sheffield) owned by Leigh Environmental.
There are 34 Local Authority incinerators dealing with household waste and 800 clinical waste incinerators.
Note: Landfill sites are contributing to global warming as they give off methane in large quantities; methane is 1000 times more potent as a greenhouse gas than CO2 (the main gas if landfill waste is burnt).

WATER
The general view is that as a global resource freshwater is under too much pressure both from people and developments including large dam projects. Access to freshwater is now estimated to be affecting one third of the world's population and of course sanitation is intrinsically related to this issue. There are many sites and much debate. Visit:

WIND TURBINES
These have fast become unpopular and the efficiency and output of wind turbines is being debated; however they will continue to be built as part of current energy policy especially in Europe. For Information see:

WINDOWS, DOORS, CONSERVATORIES
New Building regulations require higher specification new build and replacement windows. Most companies now comply with the requirements in terms of U values (thermal index) by means of double or triple glazing, low emissivity glass and thermal breaks. Choice of materials is now very important: uPVC production is toxic, Aluminium is energy intensive. Timber is still regarded as the most environmentally “correct” material if sourced from durable timber and managed plantations. See:
