WHAT IT'S ABOUT

Generally not enough is being done at all levels of society with regards good environmental practice and in fact things are going to get much worse with respect to pollution of the atmosphere, groundwater sources and loss of natural environment as a result of over development and increasing traffic. This is before anyone even mentions global warming. The aim of this website is to bring information to everyone's fingertips for little or no cost so that all have the potential to make a slight difference in whatever part of the world they are living in with regard to their everyday lives. It is a business directory within a campaigning philosophy; and is not just intended for environmental use; for example it contains useful information on renovating your home.

METALS
At the present rate of discovery and re-use of metals it is not expected that copper, gold, mercury, silver and tin will be commercially viable for much longer. They all need to be recycled in greater quantities.

Strangely it is still domestic and not industrial use that creates most scrap steel. The UK discards enough steel each year to build 10 QE2s; that is 600,000 tons.

MOULDS, FUNGIS & INFESTATION
Note that some so-called “experts” encourage people to part with large amounts of money in order for their properties to undergo “treatment” when in fact there is no wet, dry or any kind of rot present or insect infestation; this has been a growth industry for a very long time and consumers should really get a consultation from an RICS (Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors) specialist before employing a company of any kind. It is also the case that homeowners are encouraged to believe they have “rising damp” when the problem actually relates to external factors rather than the alleged absence of a damp proof course.

Permeable urban drainage:

This is becoming more common instead of hard surfaces as they do not overload the local sewers in the event of flash flooding. They also usually employ soft landscaping with grass and shrubs and are therefore more ecological. Ponds are also highly recommended for encouraging local wildlife. See:
